I’m male, 34, married with children. I’m scheduling a vasectomy for this month and I want to know what kind of experiences men have had afterwards, good and bad.
somnolentrooster: Zero complications. Ice, ice, and ice for the first night and generally take it easy for a few days. Engage in follow-up care as instructed and don’t neglect to do your 60-90 day follow-up check to be sure your swimmers are MIA.
perfectionisajourney: If given the option, avoid the punch method. Every friend who did it reported a lot of pain. The traditional method is 15-20 minutes and a good urologist can do it through a single incision. I have a relatively high tolerance for pain and don’t even fill my script for painkillers and I was back at work that afternoon (against doctor’s orders but we were short and I own the place soooooo).
redpillzoob: Good experience… No problems afterwards… Like above, ice. I used bags of frozen peas.
Mr_Mrs_Mix_Match: All good…Had it done on a friday. Was fine the next day but still took it easy. Followed the Dr’s recco on refraining from sex for the suggested time and then the experience was over.
The end. Really, that was it.
I have ordered beers at a bar that took longer than the entire procedure.
Kevinmac59: I was worried that my seed wouldn’t look the same. It looks the same – No problems what so ever.
sangetencre: My husband had an easy time. Quick, no complications. He took maybe two Lortab for the pain, but didn’t even really need them, he said. It was more, “I have them, I should try it.”
Just be sure to go back for your follow up to make sure you’re sterile. Not doing that accounts for most “vasectomy failures.”
philshamrock: had mine done 7 years ago. still experience post vasectomy pain syndrome. every now and then out of the blue it feels like someone punches me in the right testicle and the pain lasts anywhere from 30 seconds to 45 minutes. would not do the procedure again if I had to go back in time.
friendlyswingers: I’ll echo what others have said. I had the no-scalpel method. The procedure itself was a little surreal, laying on a table while the doctor works with my junk, having a conversation with two nurses also looking on. There was a little smoke and the tugging was unusual feeling, but not painful. Rested, iced and elevated for a day or two. I did the follow up testing at the prescribed times. No regrets at all. Was not a big deal. Waiting to have sex afterwards was maybe the worst part.
n0mad26: Mine was rough, got a sperm granuloma. Fucking sucked, my balls swelled up and felt like I was getting kicked in the nuts all the time. Lasted about 2 weeks
IHeartUNoMatterWut: I had no scalpal method. Mine was painful. The doctor had to keep giving more and more freezing and I could still feel it.
And it was quite sore for about a week or two after. But since then, perfectly fine.
edubkendo: it hurt like hell for a couple days, then about a day after i ran out of vicodin, i had some swelling and bruising and had to get a second prescription of painkillers, but that went away after about a week or so and ever since it has been a life of joyful sex with no concern about unwanted pregnancy. seriously one of the best decisions i have ever, ever made.
sexyanonymous: i am going to get one next year, i’m getting the no scalpel procedure.
i have no kids, and i don’t want kids ever, i also have alot of friends who think the same way and have had vasectomies, most of them got the no scalpel procedure
about 3 of my friends got them, and returned to a physical job the same day without much problem
a few of them have had the scalpel procedure and had a slightly extended recovery and some lingering pain for about a month(though it’s still worth it if thats what you can get)
rusocool: No problems, you will probably walk like a cowboy for a few days, but it really is not so bad. The results are well worth any initial discomfort. Also when you have your first orgasm afterwards, it is … “super intense”
unipow: mine was not an incision. they popped a hole on the front of my nutsack. he would then stick a fish hook in and pull out the vas def, cut it and cauterize it. repeat for other side. it was uncomfy when he gave me the shot to deaden the area. felt like someone was squeezing my nuts. afterward ice and i think they rec tylenol. i had some bleeding out of the hole for about 1.5 days. i was also back to banging on day 3. overall NBD. get it done. it’s nice not to worry. FWIW, cum looks and tastes the same afterward. i can’t tell one bit on the before and after. neither can my wife.
incognitoguy: Guy here. Had it done 10 months ago. Easier than I expected. Just took it easy over the weekend with a bag of frozen peas and Advil.
sandybeachclam: Husband had no scalpel method and followed recommended couple of days of rest and ice. Stock up on frozen peas they make great ice pack.
He said worst part was jerking off at doctors office on following haha
jaxjeager: Little sore for a couple days, very minor bleeding into urine, took it easy for a few days, no big deal. 10/10 would recommend.
LuvAsThouWilt: Had mine done 15 years ago or so and it was no big deal. I had some mild soreness for a couple of days, some itchiness from stitches/hair growing back for a week and that was it. I would highly recommend!
accomplicated: It was a surprisingly easy surgery; I really didn’t expect to be walking in and out as quickly as I did. I do recommend emphasizing to your SO that she should be completely in charge of your children for several days. My young ones had a hard time understanding that I couldn’t pick them up and play immediately following my surgery. Also, I assume that you are not a DJ, but if you are, I don’t recommend spinning records for several days, unless you plan to do so while sitting. The weight of my testicles after spinning records for a short while, was almost too much to bear; not painful per se, but they just felt like they were being pulled away from my body. It was an odd sensation.
Of note, it was interesting chatting with the surgeon while he was performing the operation. They dimmed the lights and put on some classic vocal jazz (Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.); it was quite romantic.
AdeptEavesdropper: Scalpel here – had it done on Friday morning, came home and sat on the couch with a couple of bags of frozen peas over the weekend, and went back to work on Monday. Didn’t take, or need, any pain pills. Skipped softball that week on Tuesday, but was good the following week for that, and didn’t miss anything else that weekend.
Worst part was trying to jack off into the cup in time to get it to the doctor’s office and still get in to work on time.
chade1968: Be proud you are not the kind of man who asks his wife to do the surgery because he is scared…. very common occurrence. It’s no big deal, adds years to your life since you no longer worry about your partners getting pregnant too.
HolePunch66: I didn’t make a vas deferens
Designer_David: Scalpel here!! It’s the only surgery I’ve ever had! The drug they gave me to calm me a bit was AWESOME! I was joking with the doc while he was shaving me (didn’t feel a thing) asked if I could sit up and watch! I think I said something to the nurse about being the only naked one in the room!! The when to sleep and woke up went home! 30 min after getting I home my wife and I tested everything to make sure it still worked!!! Not a bad experience at all!!
