International Coffee Day was last week and in order to discover how much people love their bitter brews, a study was conducted by Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts. Guests were asked a series of questions to determine which of life’s pleasures and vices they would be willing to give up instead of their favorite caffeine fixes. The results were surprising.
Alcohol, social media and even sex were deemed to be less important than coffee by most of the participants. Le Méridien must serve some impressive brews.
More than 75 percent of the respondents stated that they could go longer without sex and liquor than coffee. Approximately 53 percent of people also said that a strong cup of coffee would be a better way to start the morning than a good romp. I like a Pumpkin Spice Latte as much as the next person, but better than sex? How curious!
The survey was conducted in six countries including the U.S. and China. It focused on frequent travelers who may have been business people because about a quarter said they feel less creative without caffeine, and a whopping 81 percent said they need coffee to get through their boring workdays.
If I worked so hard that I needed a constant stimulant fix to get through my workday, I wouldn’t be thinking about sex either. Not that I work very hard.
Obviously no one will ever have to choose between coffee and sex. This survey was simply meant to find out where people rank coffee amongst their other needs.
How about our readers- Is coffee more important than alcohol, sex, or the internet?
