The Ten Best Nude Beaches in the World
It’s time to take minimalism to a whole new level. With the ever-growing popularity of nude beaches, some local patrols are turning a blind eye, while other locales are repealing laws so nudists and naturalists can legally enjoy a naked frolic in the sand. While some do it to get back in touch with nature, others simply desire the perfect tan or just want to satisfy the craving for total freedom. Whatever the reason, there’s never been a better time to throw caution – and your swimsuit – to the wind and discover some of the world’s best nude beaches.
10. Bellevue Beach, Copenhagen, Denmark
Without the phrase “hot springs” to add warmth, the words “Scandinavia” and “nude” seem like a cruel joke. But in the summer months, locals flood into Bellevue, just 15 minutes from central Copenhagen to strip down and enjoy the breeze. Fit youths blast music and soak up the rays along the 700-meter beach, which features lifeguards and showers.

9. Wreck Beach, Vancouver, British Columbia
Canada’s first and North America’s largest clothing-optional beach, Wreck Beach attracts local and international visitors keen to bare it all. Sunbathers can easily spread out along the 7.8 kilometers of coastline, as well as join a monthly event, enjoy the live music, get a massage on Vendor’s Row, play beach volleyball or even get their bodies painted. The beach is just 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver, but the steep cliff and 500-stair descent keeps those in their birthday suits safe from peeping toms. It’s an eclectic mix of people, from families to coeds to their professors.

8. Haulover Beach, Miami, Florida
Part of the larger Haulover Beach Park, Haulover Beach is a rarity in the U.S. in that it’s a government-run clothing-optional beach. The clean beach features lifeguards, public restrooms and changing rooms and concessions. There’s also an unobtrusive police patrol, although the beach-goers tend to self-police and look out for each other as well. The beach can see as many as 7,000 visitors a day from all over the world and from every walk of life, and it’s consistently named one of the best nudist beaches in the world due to its pristine white sand, year-round perfect weather and family friendly, safe atmosphere.

7. Massarandupió Beach, Bahia, Brazil
Compared to more accessible nudist destinations like Praia do Pinho, Massarandupió is practically off the grid, as only a single access road plus a 1.5-kilometer walk leads to the 12-kilometer-long beach. Two kilometers are reserved for those who think a string bikini is too restricting. While low on concessions, the beach is high on off-the-beaten-path charm, with a river running behind the dunes. Massarandupió is a great choice for those who pride themselves on taking the road less traveled and seeing the “real” side of a country, as this area is much poorer than Rio or the like, but still boasts incredibly friendly locals and all kinds of magnificent scenery.

6. Es Cavallet, Ibiza, Spain
No matter how bad the hangover after a night out in Ibiza Town, Playa Es Cavallet will cure all woes with aesthetic perfection. The beach has a wild, unkempt look to it with the rolling dunes and white sand. And the visitors aren’t half-bad either: This is the beach for young, fit partiers who aren’t shy about baring it all and being seen. Es Cavallet is gay-friendly and sees a mix of international partiers all year round. Get there early for good parking and to enjoy the weather before the sun reaches its full power.
